This blog has been heart-wrenching to write. I’ve had to explore the depths of my soul and come to terms with life’s primordial question: what is the greatest bellydance costume of all time?
Let me tell you how I found myself in this conundrum. Last week I asked you in my blog, “Tell me what you want…Your wish is my command”: what would you like to read about weekly, in between my monthly GoddessLife Newsletters. (Feel free to continue to write me with your ideas and suggestions.) There will be other regular weekly blogs and bi-weekly blogs, but since Mondays require serious inspiration, I decided declare it officially “GoddessLife Costume of the Week” day. We all love the art of bellydance, how it builds our confidence and sisterhood and the great fitness benefits, but if you are anything like me, costumes are irresistible. There are so many mouth-watering costumes from past and present that the only struggle with this blog is selecting which one to post.
While I am not claiming this as the greatest bellydance costume of all time, I admire the legends of dance so much that I had to choose a classic for the first Costume of the week. But I promise in the future to share with you costumes from dancers of today, from tribal to cabaret, costumes for sale and costumes that are just good enough to eat!
Here is the great Egyptian dancer Samia Gamal in the movie “Valley of the Kings”. This Goddess works the two-toned bra and the wide beaded belt, but it’s her joy of dancing that sparkles even brighter than her costume.
