  • How to Make a Vision Board actually Work. How to avoid your board becoming bored.

How to Make a Vision Board actually Work. How to avoid your board becoming bored.

I know that sounds a bit harsh. However, all I want is for each and every one of our dreams to not just remain dreams.

It's probably safe to say that most of you have created a vision board once or twice. You read about it or made one in a workshop and it was an enjoyable activity. Maybe you even kept it. And displayed it in some significant place in your room. Any many of you actually manifested a dream from a picture you pasted - or at least you recognize some connection between that picture of a beach and a vacation you took to a tropical island. However, I am suggesting another way to create a vision board that is very effective in helping you turn your vision board into a visionbecomesyourlife board.

First, I recommend starting with a corkboard mounted on your wall. I'm talking your own offline-private-pinterest.com Just like every badass CIA character like Carrie in Homeland to Maya in Zero-Dark-Thirty who both use their corkboards to help them see “the big picture” or clarify “the problem" (to fight terrorism).

There are many benefits to creating your vision board on a corkboard. Namely one: it is a way to keep dreams/goals moving and ever changing. Being easily able to add and remove pics is essential to manifesting your dreams into your life. If it’s pasted on the board, it makes it more difficult to remove that photo of that hot guy giving you a foot massage that you thought looked perfect next to the body you want to look like.. a super fit model (put a pic of you instead:) Try to see the connections between your visions or things you want to change and move them or remove them! In addition, we are always evolving and our visionboard should reflect this – or else it soon becomes outdated, stagnant and uninspiring and…forgotten.

Also, you will want to have a pinboard so that you can pin “things to do” that will help and make you take actions toward your dreams. This is key. If you only have pics that inspire you, your board could become bored. You want to upgrade these inspirations into actions. On my board, I’ve pinned an application for an important business document, business cards of people I need to contact, a calendar for the deadlines/launch of the new online Goddess Workout Teacher Training certification, a flyer for CPR class I need to sign up for and ideas for my upcoming birthday festivities.

Of course, I also have pinned to my vision board: creative ideas, positive affirmations, postcards, photos and images that inspire me. Of people that I adore, people I want to work with, quotes and images that I aspire towards. These I change often, as well.

This is how my board looks today. Can’t promise it will looks the same tomorrow!

I would love to see pics of your boards! And here the fascinating stories of your dreams…

  • How to Choose a Bellydance Stage Name

When I taught Conan O’Brien to bellydance, the first instruction I gave him was: choose a stage name. I told him to, “let the ordinary Conan go” so that he could enter the fascinating world of the dance and create a captivating persona. He chose ‘Conando’. And the rest is history!

At first it may sound superficial and possibly even daunting, but choosing a stage or “Goddess” name is an essential part of becoming a bellydancer and a certified Goddess Workout Instructor. The name you chose represents your empowered, enchanting, exotic, ethereal, mysterious and theatrical self.

But how do you choose a stage name?

I have included hundreds of Arabic and Goddess names for you to choose for yourself or your students in The Goddess Workout Teacher Training Manual for certified instructors.

  • Happy New Moon in the sign of Aries - Wednesday April 10th, 2013

A New Moon in the sign of Aries occurs on Wednesday, April 10th, 2013, at 5:35 AM EDT.

The New Moon in Aries cycle is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Ram. It's time to take action - try something new and innovative, and go at it with gusto and confidence; be assertive without being abrasive; take charge of our lives; start a brand new project; and discover our own personal courage.

This is a strong cycle under which to re-evaluate our relationship to ourselves. With this potent Aries energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. It's time to make some solid yet realistic plans, and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks' time after the Full Moon occurs.

  • Bucket Lists are Stupid

The cops just pulled me over. Again. And I’ve been waiting in my car for over 20 minutes. But I’m not concerned - I haven’t committed a crime. Well, nothing serious, anyway.

You see, I have only one name on my Driver’s License: Dolphina (which is also the solitary name on my Social Security Card and Passport – which leads to more exotic delays). Right now, the police officers are most likely stupefied on precisely how to find me in their system – or wondering if I exist at all.

Then they return to my car and ask me what my ‘real’ or ‘last’ name is. To them, this is rare incident, but it happens to me all the time. Sometimes an impromptu bellydance performance or pulling my finger cymbals out of my glove compartment or dance bag suffices the average skeptic.

  • GoddessLife Favorite Things - Dream Halos dream catchers by Marie K'noos

DREAM HALOS is an exquisite new line of dream catchers created by Marie K'noos to enhance good dreams, visions and protection.

Native Americans believe dream catchers connect the heavens to earth. They act as filters to clear negative energy and enhance spaces for beautiful dreams to be realized and manifested.

These sleep amulets hang from the ceiling, most commonly over beds but can be placed in corners, windows or in any place needing fresh, positive energy. It is recommended to shake the dream catcher a few times a year to clear it. Each unique DREAM HALO is hand made with love. Sweet dreams!

My dear friend, Marie K'noos started making them after returning to Malibu from Hawaii because she felt disconnected...they put her in an altered state and she felt centered when she sat down to make one. Everyone came by and wanted one. Viola! DREAM HALOS was born. Marie is a Filmmaker, Feng Shui specialist and has created and owned three extremely successful retail stores in the exclusive Country Mart in Malibu, the North Shore in Oahu and Paia in Maui. She is a rare, divine and magical being!

Her one of a kind Dream Halos are ridiculously beautiful and so mystical that they are difficult to photograph. You are just going to have to trust me. I am blessed to call her a friend and she Feng Shui-ed my house and GoddessLife HQ. I have a Dream Halo dream catcher in every room! Her business is growing very quickly & she's uber busy - so let her know that you are part of the GoddessLife community and you were referred by me:)

  • What’s it like being a certified Goddess Workout Instructor?

It’s difficult to put into words the feeling of teaching others how to embrace their inner goddess. Words like rapture, bliss, stunning, and breathtaking come to mind, but they are inadequate.

Goddess Workout Instructors get to open a doorway, allowing women to step through into their own power.

“Belly dance is a secret doorway that has always existed through which daring women pass.”

When I first connected to the dance, something mystical happened. I not only improved my health, but I was overflowing with a joy that spilled out into the rest of my life. A whole new beautiful world opened up to me: it was like being in love, but in love with my own life.

When I started teaching, these feelings were magnified. To be inspired is great; but to INSPIRE is even GREATER.

  • How to Select and Serve a Bottle of Champagne - and Open the Bubbly Safely

To my sheer horror, I found out last night that one of my most glamorous and chic friends did not know how to open a bottle of champagne! This unpleasant discovery was made when the loaded weapon was pointed right at me: she had removed the wire cage (that goes around the cork) and the naked cork was aimed precisely in my direction while she aimlessly chatted.  I tried to remain calm as I diverted a total catastrophe by quickly snatching the bubbly from her and putting my hand over the cork. After accusing her of the crime, she confessed that she did not know how to properly open a bottle. I realized at that moment - if she does not know how to open a bottle of champagne - then there must be so many other lost lambs out there! So, in my mission to make the world a better (and safer) place for Goddesses everywhere: here are the guidelines of how to properly select, open and serve a bottle of champagne.

  • GoddessLife Woman of the Week Wednesdays - Jane Fonda

It's GoddessLife Woman of the Week Wednesday! Here at GoddessLife HQ, we feature a woman who embodies the highest possible expression of her nature. Honoring the brilliance in other women will help all of us on our path to living our own true potential.

It was unlike anything that anyone had ever seen or done before. The video opens with a close-up shot of a dancer wearing leg warmers as she stretches her leg up on a dance barre and then pans out to show a typical scenario of dancers gathering for a class. Then the camera zooms across the room onto Jane Fonda wearing her infamous stripped leotard with a belt around her waist (what was that for?), tights and leg warmers. She comes up from touching her toes, tosses back her head and utters enthusiastically her now famous line, “ Are you ready to begin the workout?” towards the camera – as if she is talking to us – because she was. We were now taking a class with the famous Jane Fonda as our instructor in the privacy and convenience of our home.

  • GoddessLife TuesdaysShoesdays - Nike Studio Wrap Dance Yoga Shoes

It's Tuesday and the day we at GoddessLife HQ feature an outrageous, fabulous, unbelievable pair of shoes. Why? Because it's TuesdaysShoesday! And no matter what you choose to wear on your tootsies, go out there and strut your stuff Goddesses!

I know I'm not supposed to. But I can't help it. I love these new Nike Studio Wrap shoes!

I'm aware the entire yoga blogosphere has their chakras in a twist over these shoes. Blog after blog accuse Nike of peddling a product we don't need just to squeeze their way into the market "owned" by Lululemon. Don't get me wrong, I heart Lululemon. I'm a Lululemon Ambassador for asanas sake!

Reading these blogs, it seems as if the entire yoga community meditated at the banks of the Ganges and it spoke. The words were: these shoes are too expensive, unnecessary and they would be embarrassed to wear them to class. I disagree.

Possibly it's because I'm a dancer, as well as, yogini. Perhaps it's because Nike is a Greek Goddess and us goddesses wear everything from Lululemon to a gypsy scarf from a flea market. Or maybe it's simply that they are pretty. Whatever the precise reason, I cannot wait to lace a pair on and go to a pilates, ballet barre, yoga or belly dance class!

  • Happy New Moon Solar Eclipse in Scorpio!

This New Moon Solar Eclipse occurs on Tuesday, November 13th, 2012, at 5:09 PM EST.

This lunation is a more potent New Moon, as it is a Total Solar Eclipse, and represents a new beginning in the fixed water sign of Scorpio. It's a time when we can focus on some of the constructive traits of the sign of the Scorpion--passionate, resourceful, focused, probing, deep, and perceptive--and consider how to positively incorporate these qualities into our lives. Scorpio New Moons are generally good for working on our self-mastery skills. We may want to pinpoint the things in our lives that make us feel out of control, such as addictions and debts, and work on freeing ourselves of these emotional burdens. This New Moon cycle is also an opportune one in which to explore what is missing in our lives that leads us to engage in these self-destructive behaviors. This cycle represents an opportunity to rid ourselves of the "junk" in our lives--material and spiritual. With this potent Scorpio energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives.

  • Hurricane Sandy meets Walden Pond

I went into the woods today with my best friend, Marcella de la Luna, because I wished to live deliberately and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover I had not lived.

I could have never predicted that my pilgrimage to my beloved Walden Pond would include a monster hurricane, 4 bottles of champagne, missed airplane connections, dozens of costume changes, and letting go of plans so that I could experience the life that was waiting for me.

  • GoddessLife Favorite Dance Video Thursdays - Popping out of a Cake!

In celebration of how profound dance has enriched my life, each Thursday I post a GoddessLife Dance Video of the Week. Enjoy and keep dancing!

This week is a scene from the musical Singing in the Rain. This movie has such a plethora of some of the most memorable dance routines in all of cinema history that this little number often goes unnoticed. It has always been one of my personal faves because I love the roaring 20's and the Coconut Grove dancers and POPPING out of a cake - which Debbie Reynolds does in this super fun & adorable number. I honestly think the world could do with a lot more of cuties jumping out of cakes. Yes, I do. I think its fun & makes everyone smile and all of you who want to judge me and call me a hypocrite for calling myself a feminist and jumping out of cake this past weekend...will just have to see the pics and all the fun everyone had!

  • So, You’re Thinking about Performing a Bellydance Show for the First Time?

I would bet my bottom dollar that since the moment you began taking belly dance classes or practicing with DVDs, you have heard this question: "When are you going to perform for me?" Who could blame them? I could watch belly dancers 24/7 and feel like a kid on Christmas morning with each and every shimmy.

Women wrote me so often with questions about performing a bellydance show for someone special that I included a bonus segment on The Goddess Workout: Intro to Bellydance entitled: "How to Bellydance for Your Man". Recently, I have received so many inquiries about the names of the song and on which CD is the track that I taught or performed a routine on my Goddess Workout DVDs. So darlings, here in this blogpost, I have listed all the Goddess Workout DVD routines, name of song and # of track from which CD…and a link to listen to clips and download your desired song.

  • Cleopatra as a role model and what lessons can be learned from how she lived her life

Cleopatra is arguably the most fascinating woman who has ever lived. The Pharaoh is so captivating that at least 2000 years after her death, there are nearly 200 films, TV movies and documentaries and almost 4000 books written about her listed on Amazon.com! (This compares with 1200 books on Marilyn, 300 written about Madonna and 150 about Coco Chanel). I devour anything and everything I can about Cleo, from documentaries on the History Channel to archaeological articles sent to me online by a friend.

Why? What makes a woman that lived so long ago still irresistible after all this time? I would examine her extraordinary life from a new perspective: Cleopatra as a role model and what lessons can be learned from how she lived her life.

I divided her fantastic biography into four "Cleotes" and how we can apply these quotes and lessons to our own lives.

  • The GoddessLife way to Cleanse

Oh January, here you are on my doorstep again. Every year you barge into my house like some prissy, judgmental loan shark to claim all the guarantees I made to you in December. Ok – so, I made them to you in November, too. Yes, I am aware that I ate an entire cheese and cracker plate all by myself at a holiday party. Honestly, is it a big deal? And I have not forgotten all of my ridiculous promises I made to you that included going on a major cleanse as soon as you arrived. But January, I am going to make you an offer you can’t refuse.

I’m a Goddess and we are notoriously terrible at cleanses. The last time I drank water with lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup; I had a ghastly headache, felt totally deprived and ended up going on the cupcake cleanse. Cleanses are typically aggressive, severe and strict. These are masculine traits. If I am going to do a cleanse, the process needs to be feminine. In other words, it will require nurturing, pampering and gentleness. These are all aspects of femininity. Fortunately, I have the perfect solution!

  • How to Keep Your New Years Resolutions All Year

Say it with me: "This year I'm going to transform my life from mundane to magical by not only writing down my New Year’s Resolutions, but actually following through with them." Easy enough, right? For some, but for most people, the easy part comes in the writing of them, not the doing.

*** I’ll admit it. I took the chocolate road to happiness this Fall. After a series of personal traumatic events, I let myself go and my buns of steel turned to buns of marshmallows. I stopped exercising and was breathless after a 15 second lap dance for my boyfriend. It was perfectly normal for me to eat a cupcake for breakfast. I never thought it would happen to me, but it did. I was out of control and completely out of shape.

  • A Fresh New Way to keep your New Year's Resolutions

Yep, it’s true; I am a rebel. My defiant nature has nothing to do with politics or the law (for the most part); but if you said I was an nontraditional girl, you would be right on the money, honey. I am honestly bored by doing things the way they have always been done and most importantly, they don’t seem to work for most people…especially moi. But please don’t misunderstand and assume that I am pessimistic priss or against the concept of tradition. I believe wholeheartedly in the basic human need for ritual, hope and goals.

So, when the New Year’s roll around and the internet is flooded with all the tired ideas of how to kickstart your rezzies, its not that I am in opposition to the notion of people setting goals, I just think those tired thoughts should be, well, (re)tired.

  • Happy Winter Solstice – This celestial dance shows us how to re-ignite your inner-light

“What’s the big deal going on in the sky?” you ask. It's the Winter Solstice combined with a New Moon in Capricorn.

So? This rare occurrence signifies an opportunity for BIG personal transformation. The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year and marks the darkest point of the sun, after which the light begins to return and the days become longer. Add the New Moon to this picture and now the sun and moon are both at their darkest point – making for an extremely long and dark night.

  • Create a Nom de Voyage while traveling this holiday season

Many of you will be traveling this holiday season to visit family or friends (or what my friend calls framilies) and I recommend you adopt a "nom de voyage"  - for the car ride, plane flight or for your entire trip. A nom de voyage can come in handy to entertain your kids on a long car ride. Tell your kids you can't respond to their multiple questions unless they call you Goddess of the Car, Queen Candy Cane or Miss Zhu Zhu. It will make your whole family laugh every time they say it and give every one a delightful boost. It can also aid in the loneliness if you are not traveling and cannot be with your loved ones.

I was at the US Embassy in Kuwait when a producer from the Conan O’Brien TV show called early one Tuesday morning. She asked, “Would I fly 6384 miles to appear on his late night show that Thursday?” “Absolutely,” I answered and packed my suitcase. I have appeared on literally hundreds of TV shows to promote my fitness, bellydance and women’s empowerment books and workout DVDs. I’ve shimmied with Regis, undulated with the women on The View and taught Carrie and Miranda on Sex and the City to awaken their Goddess within.

  • Pay Women Compliments

Years ago, a pretty woman in her twenties, approached me after I finished a bellydance show and asked me if she could ask me an unusual question. I must interject here that after I perform, I consistently receive an unbelievable assortment of questions and compliments: hilarious, flattering, way-too-personal, rude, and repetitive—you name it, I’ve heard it. I try my darndest to be polite and utter a quick thank-you but I often use one of my worn-out comebacks that I should really retire. I am aware that bellydance is provocative and some people are unsure of an appropriate response. But I digress…

  • Tell me what you want...your wish is my command!

Darlings! It occurred to me last night that I've been a terrible hostess – I invited you to the GoddessLife party and then dashed into the other room, distracted by upcoming projects and now here I am just returning to the revelry. Where are my manners!? Fortunately for all of us, the gala has just begun and it is going to be the greatest bash you have ever seen, one that you will never want to leave.

My wish is to give you more of what you desire and need as a Goddess living in this ordinary world.  I was thinking of all your provocative questions, clever suggestions and willingness to share your deepest desires and personal experiences that contribute to the newsletters. I am pleased as punch when I’m writing the eGoddess news, that I long to give you more. Sending it out each month has made the world seem a smaller, more loving place. And all you Goddesses? I feel like we're all kindred spirits, spread all over the world.

  • When you don't FEEL like a goddess...

I will be here for you when you don’t feel like a Goddess. Let me be your mirror. I am here to lend a hand so you remember that you are.

Even the most confident woman has days when she doesn’t believe she is a Goddess. Every now and then these thoughts creep up after a painful break up or when you’re overworked, ill or financially strapped.  Other times it’s unclear the precise reason. You can’t seem to help but feel antisocial, invisible, insecure, over-the-hill, out-of-shape, unattractive, powerless, lost or insignificant. When you are being hard on yourself and thinking unkind thoughts, I am here to help you see how exquisite you truly are.

  • Empower your self with Confidence

I'm lying here on my round pink satin bed thinking of all the gifts I've received through bellydance: confidence, glamour, freedom, sexiness, joy. Bellydance has empowered me in nearly every area of my life but one: business.  Shimmy half naked for Arnold Schwarzenegger? No problem.  Read a financial report? I don't think so.  Give me some rose petals and tell me to spread them on my pink satin sheets - can do. Ask me to do an Excel spread sheet and I'll run screaming the other direction.  Actually, that was the old me, before I embraced my inner entrepreneur.  Now, spread sheets and running numbers come to me as easily as belly rolls.  How did this happen? By following some simple steps.

  • Lunar Lover's Delight: September's Harvest Full Moon is Coming!

Over the next few nights, the moon will be well placed for observation as it moves towards full moon on Sunday night (Sept. 12). This month's full moon is special, because it is the Harvest Moon in the Northern Hemisphere. Because of the location of the sun, Earth, and moon this month, the nearly full moon will appear low in the southeastern sky for several nights in a row, which traditionally has allowed farmers an extension of daylight during the critical time of year when they are harvesting their crops - which is how it was named.

  • Treat yourself to a delicious, fun and fabulous class you always wanted to take!

Sign-up for a class you’ve always wanted to take

While I was at my favorite coffee shop this morning, I read an inspirational story about a woman who simultaneously turned 100 years old, graduated college and crossed the last thing off her bucket list. A bucket list is the 100 things you want to do before you “kick the bucket”. Her story and my second cup motivated me to want to write my own list. However, the copious amount of different things that I desire to do and accomplish in my lifetime flooded my mind all at once and I nearly imploded. I mindlessly grabbed a Community Center class schedule from a stack of newspapers and magazines and thumbed through the classes that ranged from photography to massage to knitting. I noticed that I kept thinking page after page, I’ve always wanted to learn that. But then my mind resisted with the typical excuses: I don’t have time (it will get in the way of procrastinating), I will be terrible at it (and everyone will laugh at me) and its too extravagant to take a class that serves only one silly purpose (because I want to).

  • Tips to Surviving a Break-Up

I’ve been on both sides of a break up. I’ve been dumped, cheated on, neglected, ripped-off, lied to and longed for someone to change. I also have been unavailable, a total dork, immature, angry, stupid, possessed by PMS and completely rude. I’ve been in relationships that endured years and infatuations that lasted 10 minutes. The fact remains the same, regardless of the circumstances: Break-ups. Are. Painful.

Goddess knows I don’t have all the answers, but these are my Top-10 ways I have survived a break-up.

  • Dream Jobs - Do what you love for a living and be a cubicle refugee!

I love my job! It’s crazy, but I adore it more than breakfast in bed. And that’s saying a lot! GoddessLife headquarters is an unconventional workplace that I created by doing what I love to do: dancing, dressing up and empowering women to discover their own path. I found my purpose in life, but it wasn’t always this way.

I was fired from my last job of six years.  My boss sat me down over his 18th espresso of his day and started on his tirade by telling me I was a "wild pony".  I was about to say, "thank-you" when he interrupted me with his thick Greek accent to yell at me dramatically, "You are ruining my life" and proceeded to let me go.  Yes, I was bellydancing and technically doing what I loved to do.

  • Bloom where you are planted - How to find a career mentor

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, I knew how to do everything included in my job description. I was a bellydancing at a Moroccan restaurant and teaching bellydance classes. My days were filled with obsessively making bellydance costumes, searching for new Middle-Eastern music and rehearsing.  I made some extra money by selling my Goddess Workout video to my dance students that I recently produced. Then, a student, who was a writer for Sex and the City wrote about The Goddess Workout into an episode. Suddenly my life changed. I was in business. I mean business, as in becoming incorporated with stockholders, officers, lawyers, accountants, spreadsheets and an account at Staples. I was thrown into an alternate universe with aliens who spoke a bizarre language. I needed a guide to navigate the new strange world…I needed a mentor.

  • Happy Hour

Happy Hour. The literal phrase is delightful. The concept is brilliant. The saying is a completely American invention created during the 1920’s prohibition era. The slogan was used at speakeasies (another great phrase) to denote drinking before dinner.

Yes, it is true that the idiom is usually associated with cocktails after a stressful day of work. However, this fact doesn’t mean that you must become inebriated in order to create a happy hour for yourself.

There are millions of other things you could do with that time that would bring you joy.  I have listed 10 ideas below, but I would love to hear your ideas.  Write me and tell me what you would do with your happy hour. The point is to carve out an hour to let your hair down and devote it to your own happiness.

  • Fasten your seatbelts -Mercury goes retrograde today. Btw, what does that mean???

Fasten your seatbelts; it’s going be a bumpy ride from March 30 through April 23rd. Mercury will be going into retrograde starting today, taking us for a wild ride for the next three weeks. Be prepared to get lost, run out of gas, arrive at your appointment late, spill coffee on your favorite skirt, misplace your files, fight with your boyfriend and leave with a parking ticket. Sound like oodles of fun? It’s unfortunate that you cannot stop Mercury from going retrograde, but there are some tricks to help you survive during this time and possibly even learn some things!

***NOTE: while I was copying this blog post from a blog post from 2008 - my computer crashed! Mercury in retrograde is a trickster and has officially begun.

  • Super Moon - Magical Moonlight

Have you been reading all about tonight's special Super Moon? In celebration of the bodacious, beautiful, bright, silvery Goddess, I am re-posting my "Magical Moonlight" blog from May 2008.

While I was driving home tonight from my bellydance gig in Malibu, I was so enchanted by the glow of the Full Moon and the illuminated path it created on the ocean that I nearly drove off a cliff! I began to think about how staggering the influence the Moon has on Earth: twice a day, it makes the waters of the oceans ebb and flow.  It takes about 1,500,000,000 horsepower for the Moon to drag the tides across the Earth each day. Sheesh, that's a lot of power! Scientists (those cuties with the white coats and coke-bottle glasses) say that our body is made up of 95% water. With all this power, the Moon (also known as Luna) must affect us, too, no doubt.  Perhaps which is why we attribute craziness and wild behavior to the Full Moon with the term: lunatic.

  • The Goddess of Pampering: Elizabeth Arden - Pioneer of the Beauty Industry & Yoga!

I am deeply grateful for the woman that gave us the gift and tools for pampering!

Her name is Elizabeth Arden & positively every woman in the United States used her creams, perfumes and cosmetics, including Marilyn Monroe. Elizabeth was an unstoppable powerhouse created absolutely everything what we know today as the $150 billion global health and beauty industry.

She was divinely inspired (obviously) when she opened the first modern day spa and beauty salon. In 1915 she began franchising these temples to beauty called The Red Door that are still in fashion today! She also formulated and manufactured her own cosmetic line and used modern mass marketing techniques to bring her products to the public. Additionally, she introduced the concept of the "makeover" in her salons. A true visionary, she also pioneered restorative exercises based on yoga – nearly 100 years ago!

What a woman! She was a true luminous visionary whose products are still relevant today. Click here to read her entire inspiring story.

  • I’m Going Back to School – I'm getting my Doctorate in Bathing

Do you know that you that you can become a Doctor of bathing? Seriously. How freakin fabulous! I honestly thought I was through with school. After completing my Business degree at UCLA Anderson, I thought nothing would inspire me to pursue my higher education to get a PhD. But that was before I realized you could receive a bonafide Doctorate of Bathing! Now I am ready, set, go back to University.

I have decided to dedicate myself to this area of study and I will suffer through the treacherous hours of research soaking in all of the mineral baths I can locate. I know it will be grueling and experimental, but after all, I have already completed all the basic studies: I have been wrapped in chocolate in Mexico, had a gin martini facial in Paris, a rose-petal massage in Thailand, Goddess Temple mineral springs in Greece and Lomi Lomi in Hawaii.

  • How to Select and Serve a Bottle of Champagne and open the Bubbly Safely

I've received many requests to repost this blog - and I would never deny my darling GoddessLife Goddesses wishes. Happy 20&HEAVEN!

To my sheer horror, I found out last night that one of my most glamorous and chic friends did not know how to open a bottle of champagne! This unpleasant discovery was made when the loaded weapon was pointed right at me: she had removed the wire cage (that goes around the cork) and the naked cork was aimed precisely in my direction while she aimlessly chatted about seeing Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at the Cannes Film Festival.

Dom Perignon was a Benedictine Monk who is often credited for accidentally inventing champagne. As the story goes, after tasting his creation, he said, "Come quickly, I am drinking the stars!"

  • My Secrets to Get Back into Shape

I’ll admit it. I took the chocolate road to happiness this spring. After a series of personal losses, I let myself go and my buns of steel turned to buns of marshmallows. I stopped exercising and was breathless after a 15 second lap dance for my boyfriend. It was perfectly normal for me to eat a cupcake for breakfast. I never thought it would happen to me, but it did. I was out of control and completely out of shape.

  • GoddessLife Panty X-Change - BURLESQUE Style!

Today was my 6th annual GoddessLife Panty X-Change and we did it Burlesque style! What you ask is a GoddessLife Panty X-Change? And how do you do it Burlesque Style? Well, relax, pour yourself a delicious beverage and let me tell you the entire ridiculously fabulous story.

It all began 6 years ago when 4 of my dearest girlfriends and I desperately longed for more panties. We are all burlesque dancers, bellydancers, hula dancers, cheerleaders and addicted to lingerie. We wore panties while we performed, in classes at my dance studio (The Goddess Center) and for fun. We actually needed them. Once you feel nice knickers on your body, its impossible to return to ordinary undies. Trust me. It was a problem of the highest magnitude; it was a thirst we could not quench. Something must be done! After much research, concentration and meditation, the idea was born that would solve all of our problems and fill our drawers with adorable drawers. For the Winter Holidays, the gift that we would give each other would be panties. AKA: The GoddessLife Panty X-Change.

  • Woman uses dance to heal child prositutes

Using dance as psychotherapy, Sohini Chakraborty is helping former child prostitutes regain their sense of self.

In 1996, Sohini Chakraborty was walking in Kolkata when she came across a wrenching poster: a photo of a child prostitute staring listlessly at the camera, with the caption "I am no more bride-to-be, no more mother-to-be, no more future-to-be." The poster, which was outside the office of a local nongovernmental organization (NGO), was part of an antitrafficking campaign in India, where about 1.2 million children are believed to be involved in prostitution.

  • Do you love your job? - Do what you love and love what you do. March 2010 Newsletter

    Dear eGoddess Community,

I love my job! It’s crazy, but I adore it more than breakfast in bed. And that’s saying a lot! GoddessLife headquarters is an unconventional workplace that I created by doing what I love to do: dancing, dressing up and empowering women to discover their own path. I found my purpose in life, but it wasn’t always this way.

Today I was reminded of the zany and unbelievable events that led to me to the creation of my company. This morning began with squeals of delight as I entered my office to find it revamped into a showgirl’s dream. I hired a designer to add some simple shelves while I was away for a week teaching a workshop. I returned to find she painted the shelves with opalescent paint and covered the sides with rhinestones. She draped fabric from the ceiling and removed all filing cabinets. All files, documents and books were placed on the gorgeous shelves. I couldn’t help but rediscover all my diaries that had been tucked out of sight for years, like the journals I kept when I lived at the infamous Chelsea Hotel in NYC. I pulled them off the shelf and began to read. I was brought back to the time in my life when I was lost and looking for direction. The following paragraph is the paragraph I wrote in my diary the night I discovered my career path:

  • The Cairo Chronicles - An American Bellydancer who Moves to Egypt to Pursue her Dream

Aleya is a phenomenal bellydancer in Cairo. She tells fantastic stories of rubbing rhinestones with famous Egyptian bellydancers and having snake charmers serenading outside her apartment because they think she is a wealthy Saudi. But the most amazing part of her life’s story is that she is an American bellydancer who decided to live her dream and move to the heart of the bellydance world.

Aleya and I go “way back” as dancers. I had the honor of dancing with her when we were both performing in the restaurants and clubs of Los Angeles.  As a bellydancer, it is one thing to be respected by Middle-Easterners living in the United States, but it is entirely different story to perform in the Middle-East.

I believe that dreams should not be just dreams. The way I see it is that dreams aren't made for sleeping on. They visit with purpose. And yet, I know how difficult it is to follow our dreams.

I am so inspired by Aleya pursuing such a bold dream, that I asked her to tell her to write her story and share it with us. Enjoy The Cairo Chronicles and let her motivate you to do what you love and love what you do.

  • Guilty Pleasures

As my phone rang tonight, I found myself saying those nasty four little words, “ I really shouldn’t, but…”

You see, I have a vintage pink rotary phone that’s cord only reaches the fake fur rug on the floor next to it.  To speak on the phone, I have to lie on the rug. It’s decadent in The Valley of the Dolls kind of way. I knew it was my best girlfriend calling and with all the work I had to do, I really shouldn’t have, but… I indulged in one of my favorite guilty pleasures and talked to my friend, on the rug (meaning, no multitasking) for two hours!

Afterwards, I didn’t care how behind I was on my spreadsheets I was supposed to have prepared for tomorrow. “So what” I said to myself, I can stay up late, or get up early, or, even *gasp* not finish them.  Indulging in my guilty pleasure made me feel so bad, I felt good.

We all have guilty pleasures – some that would embarrass us to admit – but should we feel compunction about them? If watching trashy TV shows, eating at fast food restaurants or googling your ex can bring us so much pleasure, then why should it create remorse?

Isn’t it tiring trying to be perfect and to always do the right thing? Isn’t there something to be said for the occasional dash of depravity? There is! Not everything we do needs to be productive, lead to a cleaner house or the betterment of humanity. In actually, doing something for the sheer amusement of it is reason enough.

So, go ahead, eat a gram or two of saturated fat, crank up that cheesy love ballad on your car radio and splurge on something ridiculously expensive.  And remember, sometimes, tabletops are for dancing.

  • Magical Moonlight
