The Gulabi Gang of Women Activists

The Gulabi Gang of Women Activists

These women kick ass! The Gulabi gang is a group of women vigilantes and activists from India named after the pink saris worn by its members. Gulabis visit abusive husbands and beat them up with laathis (those PINK sticks) unless they stop abusing their wives!

It's wrong either way. I can't believe the support for brutality because it's being dished out by women. I understand it's India and the cultural rules differ and I wouldn't mind helping for a few guys I know, but two wrongs have yet to make a right.

i would also add in response to teresa's comment that 2 wrongs don't make a right: you suggest that these women's method of justice is "a wrong" because it is "brutal". but even the justice system in a "civilised" country is brutal. is jail not brutal?? every justice system is based on "an eye for an eye", no matter what the punishment doled out actually is, be it incarceration or corporal/capital punishment. you do something, you suffer. the brutality promised is meant to deter further crime. so if these women beating up abusive men are successful in deterring future offenders, how is their method more of a "wrong" than anything a "civilised" western justice system dishes out?
